How Do I Know if BiHava is Working Properly?

A new oxygen absorber will feel powdery and soft when you press it. It should be free of clumps and may feel slightly warm. Used (or expired) absorbers might feel hard or clumpy.

How Can I Store Unused Oxygen Absorbers to Extend Their Lifespan?

Store oxygen absorbers at room temperature (5 to 30 degrees Celsius) and away from direct sunlight. They should be kept in vacuum-sealed packaging with the seal intact to ensure their longevity.

How Long Does It Take for BiHava to Remove All Oxygen from a Sealed Package?

The speed at which oxygen absorbers remove oxygen depends on the conditions. Under specific circumstances, it may take up to a week for the absorbers to fully activate. However, in typical conditions, this process usually takes only about 48 hours.

Why Doesn’t the Packaging Become Firm When Using BiHava?

Oxygen absorbers specifically target and remove oxygen. Since air consists of about 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen, the absorber only eliminates the 20% that is oxygen. The remaining volume of nitrogen prevents the bags from becoming firm or hard, as the absorbers do not remove the nitrogen.

If I Use Vacuum Packaging or Nitrogen Flushing, Do I Still Need BiHava Oxygen Absorbers?

Both vacuum packaging and nitrogen flushing are methods used to reduce the oxygen content in packaging. Vacuum packaging does this by sucking out the air and then sealing the package. Nitrogen flushing displaces the oxygen by introducing heavier nitrogen gas into the package. However, both methods leave behind some residual oxygen, estimated to be around 2 to 3%. Oxygen absorbers can effectively remove this remaining oxygen, ensuring better preservation of your products.

Do I Need to Freeze My Product? How Does This Affect the Effectiveness of BiHava?

Oxygen absorbers work faster at room temperature. In typical room conditions (20°C), the absorbers can remove oxygen from the packaging within approximately 24 hours. At 6°C, it takes about 48 hours for the packaging to become oxygen-free. At temperatures between 0 and 4°C, the process takes around 72 hours.
Since the moisture content of your product can vary widely, we recommend testing the effectiveness of the oxygen absorber under your specific environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance.

What Does the Expiration Date on BiHava Packaging Mean?

The expiration date indicates that for optimal results, the oxygen absorber should be used or activated by that date. This expiration date can be up to 18 months from the production date. Oxygen absorbers can be safely used until the expiration date because they only become active and start oxidizing once the package is opened.

How Long Does It Take for BiHava to Activate Once Inside the Packaging?

Oxygen absorbers begin oxidizing and absorbing surrounding oxygen immediately upon exposure. If the packaging remains sealed, the conditions inside will stay oxygen-free, and there will be no need for new absorbers. However, if the package is opened and the contents are exposed to oxygen, new oxygen absorbers will be needed to maintain the oxygen-free environment.

What Happens if I Eat a BiHava Oxygen Absorber?

Oxygen absorbers are generally non-toxic, but ingestion is not recommended. If accidentally swallowed, seek medical attention immediately and bring the oxygen absorber packaging with you to provide the necessary information to the healthcare provider.

Can I Put a BiHava Oxygen Absorber in the Microwave?

Oxygen absorbers should not be placed in the microwave as this can cause unwanted chemical reactions and reduce their effectiveness. It is best to use oxygen absorbers under normal conditions and within the recommended packaging.
